Namasté,

 YogaNBlock is a compilation from Yoga and An and that is exactly how I choose to stand in life.

In 2000 Yoga came into my life after a long and intensive career as an aerobic-, step-, body pump- and spinning instructor. The years of overtraining started to take a claim on my body. My body couldn’t cope with it anymore … but I was not ready to stop teaching yet. Being a yoga-teacher gives me the opportunity to use my body in a balanced and healthy way and as a bonus my big love, teaching, keeps on growing!

My biggest motivation is coaching and guiding people to live a healthier and more balanced life. In the past I did not have breaks, everything I did was too cool, too heavy, too fast, too scary or too strong. Now I try to help people to recognize their limits, to love their body as it is, to use their muscles in a healthy way and to help them also mentally.

After many teacher-trainings, workshops and yoga weeks, in Belgium and far abroad and after 15 years of experience, I became a “special one” in the world of yoga teachers. My group lessons, private sessions, company incentives, yoga events or yoga weeks are not too spiritual or psychedelic. You will experience a touch of rock & roll and compassion. My focus is mainly on the physical aspect BUT I will not lose sight of the mentally aspect and the relaxing healing in a yoga flow.

If you ask me to explain in one word what yoga does for me … i do not have to think: Yoga is “connection”: connection whit your breath - your body - your mind - your family - friends - clients - the food you eat - the drinks you drink. Connection makes you happy. Connection makes you kind. Connection is the BIG K-word in my life.

Who, what, why and where?

An was born in 1970 in Antwerp and sports have always been very important in her life.  

An started teaching aerobics, step aerobics, body pump, tae-bo, spinning, pilates and figure training in 1989 and when she graduated as a teacher in physical education in1992, she decided to work fulltime as an instructor in a fitness club. 

Today, she is still teaching in different clubs in Antwerp (La Gym & David Lloyd). However, over the years, yoga became more and more important in both her personal and professional life. She gradually started to focus on teaching yoga, instead of all the other classes she was giving. 

In may 2000 she was introduced for the first time to yoga and it was love at first sight!

The many teacher-trainings in Belgium and abroad, with  Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Anthony Prem Carlisi, David & Dough Swenson, Elsie Matthijssens, Chuck Miller, Maty Ezraty, Jef & Harmony, Tias & Surya Litlle, Rusty Wells and many more, made her the lively, funny, inspirational and all-round fantastic yoga teacher she is today.

Her lessons are certainly not boring! Teaching yoga to people in fitness & health clubs made her think about many different ways of introducing every asana to the right level for every person. Young and old, big or small, athletic or unsportsmanlike, An motivates everyone. 

An also heads pop-up- yoga sessions in public places in Antwerp. The lessons are accessible to everyone. From time to time she organizes workshops in yoga studios and she also is a personal yoga coach.

Last but not least, An is organizing yoga-weeks in Spain and Sardinia for now. Maybe also in different countries in the future.

Yoga, off course also something for you!

“Yoga” is Sanskrit for “union”. This doctrine is about five thousand years old and dates from India. To find unit in body, soul and breathing, yogi’s use asana’s (physical poses) and “pranayama” (practice of controlling the breath).

Yoga is not at all about competition!!!

The poses and breathing-techniques will improve flexibility, strength and stamina. Because the blood circulation is stimulated, toxins will disappear faster. Also the fat around the cells will reduce and the body will get more vital, quieter and more balanced. Physical tensions and stress will disappear as snow in the sun. ☺

In your yoga-practice, breathing is very important, even essential. The breathing not only will improve the exchange of oxygen and carbonic acid but will also provide the intake and dissemination of energy.

Yoga will give you the opportunity to find inner peace and to become aware of your own body.

Over the centuries there were several forms of yoga.

Yin Yoga or restorative yoga:

Yin yoga or Restorative Yoga is developed by Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers.
Yin Yoga has a positive effect on your organs, immune system, muscles and joints.
In this lesson, we will stay in each asana at least 3 till 5 minutes. The connective tissue is stimulated because the muscles are not or hardly not in tension. In Restorative Yoga your muscles will restore faster. Also your posture will get better.
In this lesson you will be “placed” in a pose.

  • Muscles will be pulled less.
  • We will not work on strength.
  • Connective tissue is stimulated.
  • Deep and stiff muscle-groups will be reached.
  • There will be a positive stimulation on the organs, immune  system, muscles and joints.
  • A slower breathing will reduce the level of stress.


Vinyasa Yoga:

Vinyasa Yoga is a “modern” form of Ashtanga yoga.

In a dynamic, sportive and active style, the different postures or ASANA’S will follow each other fluently. The way of breathing in a vinyasa class is very important or essential in the practice. Each movement is related with a powerful breathing technique (Ujjayi Breathing). The movements, together with the special breathing-technique will create heat in the body. Not only the exchange of oxygen and carbonic acid will be improved but also the intake and dissemination of energy.
